Manzanillo is great and safe. Good food nice people, but I would walk on the beach at 11 at night alone. Just play it safe, don’t do things that are dangerous.
Is Manzanillo Costa Rica worth visiting?
Playa Manzanillo isn’t worth traveling to purely to experience the beach. However, if you plan to tour the Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge and you wish to take a quick dip in the Caribbean Sea while in the area, Playa Manzanillo’s close proximity to the refuge is most convenient.

Take Route 32 out of San Jose, driving through Braulio Carrillo National Park. Follow the signs to Guapiles, Siquirres and Limon/Puerto Limon. In Limon, turn south on Route 36, following signs to Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. From Puerto Viejo, follow signs to Manzanillo – the town lies nine miles south of Puerto Viejo.
