El Fogon restaurant in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, a small family owned business, opened their doors 12 years ago when Ms. Suzana Arceo, founder of “El Fogon”, was inspired to put her own recipes to work, and started preparing her home-cooked concoction on fire hearth.

“I started this restaurant due to the lack of home-cooked, traditional Belizean foods on the island. To my knowledge, nobody here in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, was serving tourist that fire hearth taste, home-cooked food that I’ve been introduced to since I was a child.”, says Ms. Suzana.

Suzana always loved her grandmother’s food and adopted some of her grandmother’s. She learned how to cook and became very industrious at the tender age of eight. Suzana loves her kitchen – she loves to cook. Her recipes are a combination of mestizo and Belizean creole flavors.

“My mom has a good heart. She is an advocate for battered women and is a member of the justice of the peace. Before she opened El Fogon, she used to cook and provide food for those that are less fortunate to enjoy a hearty meal. She is the face of this restaurant. I plan to preserve her traditions and keep her recipes.”, says Olive, daughter of Ms. Suzana Arceo.
